The Mayonnaise Jar and a cup of Coffee

I got this story in an E-mail from Sandy today and I liked it so much I thought I would post it!! I thought the award I received from Barbara H. a while back went with this post! If you don't already have this award please feel free to take it. Thanks Barbara! I may have past this out and then again I may not have!!!!
Sofia's Mother flew in from Mexico today and I know she is ready for her to be here and she will be a tremendous help for the entire family!
With a 2 years old going on 3, an 11 month old and a new baby, Trust me she is needed!!! I called to see how things were going and my grandson Jey was making Chicken Soup and he said he had plenty and said," Grandma why don't you guys come on up for supper!!! I told him we had already had Chili for supper. I felt like they needed time alone with the kids and with the new baby who is doing great!
I am so glad my daughter taught my grandsons how to cook and take care of a house!!! Thanks for all the kind comments on the new baby!

The Mayonnaise Jar and a cup of Coffee

When things in your lives seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 cups of coffee.

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous "yes."

The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

"Now," said the professor as the laughter subsided "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things--your family, your children, your health, your friends and your favorite passions---and if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house and your car.

The sand is everything else---the small stuff. "If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued, "there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff you will never have room for the things that are important to you."Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your spouse out to dinner. Play another 18. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal. Take care of the golf balls first---the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented. The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a cup of coffee with a friend."

Grams,

Thank you for posting this. I have read it before and it is so true. Grandma used to say that the housework and dirt would still be there long after she was gone. She always made time for her children, grandchild, friends, company or even strangers who stopped by.

Enjoyed my visit with you and thanks for your comments on my "I Am From" post. Why don't you give it a try. It's fun and not hard at all.

Blessings,
Mary

I've never heard this before, and it really makes one stop and think about how important life is...all around!

I'm glad you shared this. It was truly enlightening.

But, knowing you...you KNEW how the jar was only partly filled...you're that way. You taught me something my dear Carolyn!!!!

Sandy sent this to me also. I've heard it before, but never get tired of reading it.

We had some wind, but not as bad as Liberty. I am trying to rest. I feel like something the dogs drug in and cats didn't want. Or something like that.

Thanks for caring.

I enjoyed reading your post.
My son learned to cook and keep house too. He does the cooking for his family most of the time. He enjoys it and his wife doesn not. Maybe they could have dropped some of the soup of for you today if they had too much.

Hey there Grams!! Glad to hear that things are going well. We do not need chilli or any kind of soup here..it is way too hot. our a/c is now finally dead..it is 97 and no air. HERE in the south it is like living in your part of the country without heat in the winter!! NOT GOOD
